Sadly, Bucharest still doesn't have an official tourist information center. Luckily, Bucharest has angels; its angels are called City Compass. No romanticised versions, they admit adapting to Bucharest life is hard and that some (if not most) new-comers might be put off by their first encounter with "The Big Mix" as coined by Wikitravel. No way we're telling you Bucharest is all wonderful, it's a crazy city, but discovering it is great fun!

I absolutely love what they do, I think they're brilliant! No romanticised versions, they admit adapting to Bucharest life is hard and that some (if not most) new-comers might be put off by their first encounter with "The Big Mix" as coined by Wikitravel. No way we're telling you Bucharest is all wonderful, it's acrazy city, but discovering it is great fun! With a little help from Bucharest Angels  - minibus tours, guided walks, Welcome to Bucharest workshops, and the CityCompass Bucharest Guide - you'll get to love it!

I'll be back soon with detailed information on CityCompass Bucharest tours, but before that let's hear one of the Bucharest Angles:

Hello, I am Volker and one of the partners of a relatively new start up company called City Compass, which is based in Bucharest. Together with my 2 partners Cristian and Christian (Romanian and Germans seem to work a lot better together than stereotypes would make you believe in the first place) and our American colleague Mateo, we try to make foreigners feel at Home in Bucharest. Why? Because we love the city now, and we were not amused at all in the beginning of our stay in the city. Bucharest is a city that needs to be discovered - which is why we offer all kind of services we would have needed upon our arrival. The most important ones are open city tours which aim at people getting to know each other and the city better, our Bucharest Survival Guide (online and printed versions available)  and our newsletter about social and cultural events in Bucharest. Our newest tour focuses on places that most expats living in the north of Bucharest and tourists never see: typical communist-era neighborhoods that really haven't changed much since communism, as well as the seats of power and the edifices of a collapsed (?) ideology - Communism to Democracy City Tour.

I could go on forever, because what we do exites me, but I just wanted to give you an impression of what we are trying to do. So if you ever stop by in Bucharest and you don't know what do or you won't like it in the beginning, then be sure to wait until you make your final judgement until you have discovered the city (with us) :)
