The programme is taking shape for this year's festival which runs between July 22 and 25; Saturday night, 24th July, looks extremely promising. There might be names you haven’t heard of yet, but don’t miss the opportunity to get to know them.
You’ll be warming up with Worldly Savages, is a trans-atlantic music project created by Eric Muth, who assembled a full acoustic band featuring members from as far as Mexico, France and Ukraine. Don’t miss their raw and danceable folk punk sound! Later the same night, you’ll get to meet Nadara, and they’be take you on a journey between Orient and Occident; they might be playing some 200 years old songs, but still a refreshing presence to the festival.
We’re absolutely sure you have heard of Ska and and of gypsy bands, not sure you heard of gypsy Ska orkestras though. At the end of the evening IRAF will bring on the stage Antwerp Gypsy Ska Orkestra! They sound great, surely not lacking anything: they’ve got a charismatic front man, street credibility, incredible energy on stage, a vast variety of styles and rhythms that stretch the boundaries of what we know as ska music, striking melodies that soar with joy and dive with melancholy, improvisational skills to match a jazz combo and best of all… their own sound that is so rich and natural that one can’t help but wonder why nobody came up with this idea before.
Antwerp Gypsy Ska Orkestra brings together seven musicians from all over the world - each with a very diverse musical background – who have teamed up to combine the pure, raw energy of authentic Roma Gipsy melodies with the ultra-danceable ska groove.
Famous for their live representations, they left the audiences in Amsterdam screaming for more. They also performed at the prestigious Eurosonic festival which confirmed their popularity status and has them headlining many festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Certainly an amazing night and I do hope you’ll make it to the afterparty, as your host will be DJ Gypsy Viking, and he travelled all the way from Canada to keep you awake! More info on what’s on, programme, tickets and bookings available on www.iraf.ro.
