Romanian Speciality - Saudi Feathers

Hi guys! I am sure this will be of interest to many of you. If ever you’re in Bucharest wondering where’s the best restaurant to try something different, exciting, something you never had before, I am really happy to say I can help you. Have you ever tried any gourmet specialities like "balls pork", "tiga chicken", "butcher brain with ham and mushrooms" or "chicken escalope bladed"? Well, I guess you haven’t.

carnaciori oltenesti - cabanos = oltenesti sausages
cascaval pane = fried breaded cheese
ficatei de la bunica = grandma's recipe chicken livers

Ficatei la tigaie = pan chicken livers
creier macelaresc = butcher's specialty - brain with ham and mushrooms

Penne Arabiatta = Penne Arabiatta

If you’re feeling adventurous, do pay La Gil a visit! No knowledge of Romanian is assumed when I say the food menu will make you laugh. Think of "crap on grill" for example. Sounds appetising, how can you not go for that? Ok, maybe not. What about "file with pork" instead? There’s of course a healthier option, so I recommend you try the special "suppressed potatoes"!

Crap la gratar = grilled carp

Rasol de vita = boiled beef

You know where to go now when you find yourselves craving (and I know it’ll happen quite often) for some Romanian traditional specialities like the well-known Saudi feathers, butcher’s brain or any other "post production specialities". No need to thank me now, it’s my pleasure!

File de porc cu cartofi inabusiti = pork fillet with sautéed potatoes

chiftelute porc = pork meatballs
costita cu fasole = ribs and beans
costita cu varza = ribs and cabbage

It sounds like we made all this up, but I assure you "La Gil" does exist. It’s actually a very convenient place to stop for a "live as the grandparents" on your way from the airport to central Bucharest.

I’m in Bucharest next week, and I will certainly stop for a quick snack at "La Gil". Just so you know what happened if you don’t hear from me again.
